(SportsNetwork.com) - After sweeping a home-and-home series from the rival Pittsburgh Penguins over the weekend, the Philadelphia Flyers will try to stay hot when they host the Chicago Blackhawks in Tuesdays inter-conference showdown at Wells Fargo Center. Watch the game live on TSN2 starting at 7:30pm et/4:30pm pt. The Flyers had lost two straight before beating the Penguins twice over the span of two days. Philadelphia hosted the Metropolitan Division leaders on Saturday and notched a 4-0 win behind a 25-save shutout from Steve Mason. The Flyers then headed across Pennsylvania to take a 4-3 decision in Pittsburgh on Sunday, with Mason picking up another win after making 20 saves. Matt Read scored twice for the Flyers on Saturday and Wayne Simmonds pumped home a pair of first-period power-play goals in Sundays triumph. The Flyers chased Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury with three goals in the first 14 minutes on Sunday before holding on for the 4-3 win. "Our team will get confidence from this. Any time you can beat Pittsburgh twice, even twice in a row, its a big boost. Thats still a very good team over there," offered Flyers head coach Craig Berube. Brayden Schenn tallied at even strength on Sunday and Read added a short- handed marker. Flyers captain Claude Giroux contributed a pair of assists in his 400th NHL game. The productive weekend pushed Philadelphia into second place in the Metropolitan Division, but the Pens still hold a 15-point lead atop the division. The Flyers are one point ahead of both Columbus and the New York Rangers in the competitive battle for the divisions three automatic playoff spots. The Flyers are kicking off a four-game homestand on Tuesday and also will host Dallas, St. Louis and Los Angeles during the stay in South Philadelphia. Berubes club is 19-12-1 at Wells Fargo this season and has won six of its last eight games as the host. The Blackhawks are visiting Philly for the second time since clinching a Stanley Cup title in the City of Brotherly Love on June 9, 2010. Chicago won Game 6 of the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals at the Wells Fargo Center, as Patrick Kane scored in overtime to deliver the franchises first championship since 1961. The Blackhawks added their second title in four seasons last spring when it beat Boston in six games for the Cup. The Flyers are 2-1-0 against Chicago since that postseason encounter nearly four years ago, but the Blackhawks slammed Philly by a 7-2 score when the teams met in the Windy City on Dec. 11. Former Flyer Patrick Sharp had a goal and two assists to lead the way in the rout. The Blackhawks halted a two-game slide in their last trip to the ice, recording a 4-1 home win over the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday. Marian Hossa scored a goal and assisted on two others in his return to Chicagos lineup. Hossa missed five consecutive games with an upper-body injury he suffered against Pittsburgh at Soldier Field on March 1. The Blackhawks went 2-3-0 in his absence. "(Hossa) changes the look and complexion of our team game. He made a big difference tonight," said Chicago head coach Joel Quenneville. Ben Smith had a goal and one assist for Chicago. Duncan Keith collected two assists, giving him 300 for his career, and Corey Crawford earned the win with 19 saves. Chicago is currently third in the Central Division and one point behind the Colorado Avalanche, who play Tuesday evening in Montreal. The Blackhawks are 18-9-7 as the visiting team this season. Following tonights tilt in Philly, the club will play its next four games on home ice. Chicago will not have forward Brandon Saad for Tuesdays game, as he did not make the trip to Philadelphia due to an upper-body injury suffered on Sunday. Saad, who has 19 goals and 44 points this season, will miss his first game of the 2013-14 campaign. L.J. Collier Jersey . Minnesota dropped the first two tests of this best-of-seven set at Chicagos United Center and was outscored by a combined 9-3 margin in those setbacks. However, the Wild righted themselves at home by taking Game 3 by a 4-0 count before knotting the series at two games apiece with Fridays 4-2 triumph at Xcel Energy Center. Iraschko-Stolz relegated Takanashi, who has 10 World Cup victories this season, to second place in two of three training jumps Saturday.WASHINGTON -- The Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitals compressed most of their excitement into a four-minute span. We score; you score. You score; we score. Sort of like one of those mini-games with the peewee players that are sometimes featured during intermission. Both coaches were aggravated, to say the least, but Carolinas Kirk Muller was in a better frame of mind about the whole thing because his team eventually won, taking a 4-3 victory in overtime Thursday night on Jeff Skinners third goal of the game. "Yeah, its not what coaches are wanting to see," Muller said with a chuckle. "Tonight it just looked like just whenever someone made a mistake, it was in our nets." With Washingtons Dmitry Orlov out of position, Skinner decided the game when he took a pass from Ryan Murphy to cap a 3-on-1 break at 1:20 of the extra period, giving the Hurricanes their second straight win after a five-game losing streak. The goal seemed far removed from the whirlwind stretch early in the second period, when five players scored goals and Alex Ovechkin missed a penalty shot -- all in 3 minutes, 45 seconds. It was a brand of dont-leave-your-seat hockey thats become all too familiar for the Capitals, who have a knack this season for letting up after scoring a goal. "I know its exciting for the fans," said Troy Brouwer, who scored for the Capitals during the goal cavalcade. "I know its a fun game to watch, but weve got to be able to calm it down. Whenever we score a goal -- we had a couple of big goals that put us ahead there -- weve got to be able to build off that and make sure that were not giving them opportunities right away. Its been a problem all year." Skinners second hat trick in less than a month gives him 19 goals for the season. Manny Malhotra also scored for the Hurricanes. With Cam Ward out with a lower body injury, Anton Khudobin made 38 saves in his first start since Oct. 13. Khudobin had been out with a lower body injury and was recalled Tuesday after a two-game conditioning assignment in the AHL. Ovechkin, skating on a new liine with Eric Fehr and Mikhail Grabovski, broke a four-game point-less streak with his NHL-leading 31st goal before missing his penalty shot.dddddddddddd. Brouwer and Steve Oleksy also scored for the Capitals, who have lost three straight and five of six. Philipp Grubauer, who has quickly emerged as the Capitals workhorse in goal ahead of Braden Holtby and Michal Neuvirth, started for the ninth time in 12 games and finished with 29 saves. Skinner scored the lone goal in the first period on a 5-on-3 -- it was more like 5-on-2 1/2 because Washingtons Nicklas Backstrom had a broken stick -- before Ovechkin opened the scoring in the second with a shot that was deflected by defenceman Ron Hainsey and fluttered past Khudobin. Then back and forth they went. Malhotra for the Hurricanes. Brouwer for the Capitals. Ovechkin was dragged down by newly minted U.S. Olympian Justin Faulk and given a penalty shot, but Khudobin poked the puck before the striker could make an attempt on net. Then Oleksy flung the puck toward the crease and watched it get deflected into the net for only his second goal of the season. Skinner got his second of the game when he put in a rebound to tie the score at 3. By then, Capitals coach Adam Oates was all but fed up. "Just mistakes. Mistakes. The guys that are on the ice are veteran guys," Oates said. "We talked about the things we talked about this morning, the icing. Stupid icings when we dont have to. We took a too many men penalty when we dont have to. You know, one of the goals -- (John) Erskine went in the zone and no one covered for him. Thats mistakes by veteran guys. They know better." Notes: Brooks Laich returned after missing 14 of 15 games with a groin injury. ... With F Riley Nash (lower body) out, the Hurricanes recalled F Brett Sutter from Charlotte of the AHL. ... Capitals D John Carlson was honoured during the first period with a video tribute for his selection to the U.S. Olympic team. Carlson is the first player in franchise history to represent the United States at the Winter Games. ' ' '
